Most kids and adults – and perhaps even our experts here at Wildwood Dental – have a mutual favorite toy: Our smartphones! This day in age, not only can smartphones connect us to friends and our careers, but they can also make a difference when it comes to oral health.
Check out these four smartphone apps and not only make oral health fun, but helpful too!
Disney Magic Timer
Kids can bring more fun to their daily brushing routine with the Disney Magic Timer app, which features 23 Disney, Marvel and Star Wars characters. Children can collect a new digital sticker after each successful two minutes of brushing; track progress with stars and milestone badges on the brushing calendar. Free.
Not all apps are game-based or for kids. This one is helpful for adults with a fear of going to the dentist. It provides relaxing music and strategies for coping with visits, and also explains various treatment options. Even if it doesn’t make the fear go away, some may find it helpful just to have their fears acknowledged and to realize how common dental phobia is. Cost: $1.99.
This app, developed by a dentist, plays two minutes of music from your library while you race against time to get your teeth clean. The app also allows you to set reminders to brush/floss, use mouthwash, change your toothbrush every 3 months and even visit your dentist. Free.
Brush My Teeth
This app is all about having fun! Brush my Teeth is a game for kids where you can simulate brushing your teeth, flossing, using mouthwash, and general dental hygiene. It also includes a dentist office game so kids can scrape way germs, brush, and remove cavities with the drill. Free.
